The American Express Leadership Academy Rejuvenates Leadership in the Not-for-Profit Sector

This week American Express, in partnership with Common Purpose, will hold the American Express Leadership Academy in Hong Kong for the second time.  The programme is designed to give not-for-profit leaders from Hong Kong and mainland China a unique opportunity to learn from each other’s experiences, address current and future challenges within the sector, as well as gain insight from key leaders in social, public and private sectors. 

The American Express Leadership Academy is tailored for participants who hold management level positions and have dedicated themselves to a career in the not-for-profit sector. Organizations are invited to nominate high potential emerging leaders to take part in the programme.

This year’s five-day programme gathers 50 delegates from organizations across Hong Kong and mainland China that work in areas such as contemporary visual art, animal welfare, impact investment, social enterprise, gender equality, refugees, disaster relief, housing, environment, poverty, education, elderly service, rehabilitation, special needs, volunteerism, social research and social service.

The programme will cover topics such as: how to be a leader in the not-for-profit arena, how to create shared value and devise sustainable solutions for societal problems, how to devise innovative solutions, how to tell stories that get people to act, how to do more with less through collaboration and how to measure impact vs. output.

Speakers include leaders from American Express, Pfizer, Microsoft, Hong Kong & China Gas, Hong Kong Disneyland, King & Wood Mallesons Hong Kong, KPMG, The University of Hong Kong, City University, HKICC Lee Shau Kee School of Creativity, Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association Science Innovation Centre, Social Ventures Hong Kong, Hong Kong Red Cross, St James’ Settlement, Caritas Hong Kong, HK Children and Youth Services, Senior Citizens Home Safety Association, Kids4Kids, Rotary Club of City Northwest Hong Kong, CSR Asia, Conservation International, Community Business and Snapask. By engaging with other leaders within a diverse group, participants are able to consider new perspectives and develop fresh insights for their organisation.
